The University of Houston has received a $100,000 gift from the Cullen Trust for Higher Education to aid University students and members of the community who are in immediate need of food assistance. The gift supports efforts at UH and the Houston Food Bank to raise awareness on the growing issue of food insecurity due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

100 small businesses owned by people of color will each receive a $10,000 grant

Comcast will again award $1 million to small businesses owned by people of color, including Black, Indigenous, Hispanic, and Asian American owners, among others, in Houston. This effort is part of the Comcast RISE Investment Fund program, a multi-year, multi-faceted initiative launched in late 2020 to support small businesses owned by people of color (POC) and provide the resources and tools they need today.

Houston Furniture Bank has been awarded a $1.5 million grant from the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund administered by the Greater Houston Community Foundation to provide essential furniture to families affected by the storm. The grant will make it possible for Houston Furniture Bank to provide furniture to 2,000 families to help them recover, expanding the nonprofit’s ongoing efforts to ensure that no child has to eat or sleep on the floor.
