Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner proclaimed himself proud today to receive endorsements from Fort Bend County elected officials
At a news conference in Chasewood, part of Fort Bend County in the City of Houston, elected officials lined up to praise the Mayor for his work in their community. Endorsers included County Judge K.P. George, Commissioner Ken DeMerchant, Precinct 4, District Attorney Brian Middleton, Constable Daryl L. Smith Sr., Precinct 2, State Representative Ron Reynolds and Fort Bend County Democratic Party Chair Cynthia Ginyard. Commissioner Grady Prestage, Precinct 2, District Clerk Beverly Walker and Senator Borris Miles are also endorsing Mayor Turner but were unable to attend the news conference.

Caliente: The Houston Astros are blazing through the rest of the AL
They say history has a strange way of repeating itself. If that is true, then some Astros fans need to be putting in for vacation days from work in October for the World Series parade in downtown Houston. The Astros became the first team to reach 70-wins in the American League this year after defeating the Cleveland Indians on last Thursday. They are currently on pace to go over 100 wins for the third straight year and would be the first team since the 2002-04 Yankees to do so. Having won 14 of their last 17 games and 8-2 in their last 10, they also hold a very sizeable lead in the AL West at 8.5.

Camilo Parra, principal of Parra Design Group headquartered in Houston’s Fifth Ward, discovered a neglected, yet distinctive home in the neighborhood at 2316 Harlem Street. Parra felt the structure embraced Usonian ideals championed by renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The home is built around a courtyard and features oversized windows, a carport, and an overhanging roof. Research revealed that the house may have been designed by African American architect John S. Chase, but this can’t be verified. Parra committed to restore this treasure to its full luster and offer it for sale.
