Study shows cancers with high levels of the SLC7A11 gene may respond to glucose transporter inhibitor treatment
New findings from researchers at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center about how some cancer cells become “addicted” to glucose could open up fresh approaches to therapy strategies for cancers with high levels of an amino acid transporter called solute carrier family 7 member 11 (SLC7A11). This includes lung cancer and renal cell carcinoma, the most common type of kidney cancer.

The September 6th, event honored philanthropist Margaret Alkek Williams, First U.S. Recipient. Emcee Jesse Metcalfe told HSM why he decided to become part of the UNICEF Foundation. After congratulating Margaret Alkek Williams for her extraordinary dedication and her award recognition HSM asked her why she picked UNICEF as her charity of choice, she whispered "for the kids, I did it for the kids." The legendary and late Audrey Hepburn's son Sean Hepburn Ferrer englightened HSM on how his mother instilled in the hearts and minds all over the world a passion for UNICEF.

Members of the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority were in New York City recently in an attempt to convince members of the NFL to bring the NFL Draft to Houston in either 2019 or 2020.
