Clinical Trial Evaluating RLF-100 in Critically Ill COVID-19 Patients with Respiratory Failure to Houston Methodist Hospital

RELIEF THERAPEUTICS Holding AG (SIX:RLF) “Relief” and its U.S. partner, NeuroRx, Inc. today announced that Houston Methodist Hospital is participating in their Phase 2 clinical trial evaluating RLF-100 as a research intervention for critically ill patients with COVID-19 and respiratory failure. RLF-100 is a patented formulation of Aviptadil, (synthetic human vasoactive intestinal polypeptide or VIP), which targets alveolar type 2 cells in the lungs that are a major target of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. VIP is known from numerous animal models of lung injury and lung disease to inhibit inflammatory cytokines and to protect pulmonary epithelial cells that line the air sacs (alveolae) of the lungs.

Influential Y trailblazer honored at ceremony Saturday, Oct. 23

The YMCA of Greater Houston proudly announces the renaming of the YMCA Equity Innovation Center powered by Reliant (EIC) to honor Quentin Ronald Mease, one of Houston’s most influential African American leaders. In Summer 2021, the YMCA and its executive committee officially voted on the EIC’s new name – The Quentin R. Mease Equity Innovation Center powered by Reliant. The YMCA of Greater Houston, community leaders and executives from Reliant joined together on Saturday, Oct. 23 at the Tellepsen Family Downtown YMCA to dedicate the renaming in his honor.

PVAMU Professors Host Book Signing and Discussion in Houston

Prairie View A&M University professors Dr. Ronald Goodwin and Dr. Mark Tschaepe recently held a book signing and discussion for their book The Mask of Microaggressions: Studies of Racism in the U.S. at the Center for the Healing of Racism in Houston. This book is being used as a textbook in both professors’ curriculum. “They were very receptive to what we did and thought it would be a useful tool to help people understand that it might not be overt racism, but it is still with us,” said Goodwin, “and we need to deal with it in all its forms.”

Rothko Chapel to Host 34th Annual Houston Interfaith Thanksgiving Service

The theme of the service is “care for creation”

On Thursday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m., the Rothko Chapel will host the 34th Annual Houston Interfaith Thanksgiving Service. In advance of the Chapel’s scheduled 2019 Symposium, “Toward a Better Future: Transforming the Climate Crisis,” the theme of this service will be “care for creation.” Leaders and members of nine different faith communities from across the city will come together to share prayers, readings, chants, and reflections on the theme “care for creation.” This year’s service will include Baha’i, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jain, Jewish, Muslim, Sikh, and Zoroastrian traditions. A reception follows the program. This event is free and open to all, no registration required. The Rothko Chapel is located at 3900 Yupon at Sul Ross, 77006.

Statement from CBC Chairman & Top Judiciary Democrat on White House Voter Fraud Investigation

Today, the Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), Congressman Cedric Richmond (D-La.), and the Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, Congressman John Conyers, Jr. (D-Mich.), released the following statement on President Trump’s creation of the Presidential Commission on Election Integrity to investigate voter fraud.
