ACLU Condemns Rep. Biedermann’s Muslim Loyalty Oath
The ACLU of Texas responded today to a letter sent by state Rep. Kyle Biedermann, R-Fredericksburg, to Muslim leaders in Texas demanding they “renounce, repudiate, and oppose” radical interpretations of Islam with an open letter of its own. In a full-page ad in the San Antonio Express-News, the ACLU of Texas condemned Rep. Biedermann’s Muslim loyalty oath as an affront to the First Amendment principles of free speech, free exercise of religion and free association.

MD Anderson ranked No. 1 for cancer care in national survey
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center again has been ranked No. 1 for cancer care by U.S. News & World Report’s annual “Best Hospitals” survey. Since the survey began in 1990, MD Anderson has been named one of the top two cancer hospitals, and it has ranked first 14 times in the last 17 years.

Two employees of a national tank cleaning company suffered injuries when exposed to hydrogen sulfide – a flammable, highly toxic colorless gas – that was present during the cleaning process of a tanker truck on April 25, 2023, in Beaumont. Two municipal firefighters responding to the scene also suffered injuries from the gas.
