Kenny Rogers, who died on March 20th, did almost everything well. Singing (sold over 100 million records), acting, song writing, restaurateur (Kenny Rogers Roasters), businessman, author, charities (Kenny Rogers Children's Center), photography and athlete (famous for faking out and then scoring on Michael Jordan in a 1988 charity basketball game), Kenny found early success in the music business as a Houston teen star singing his song “That Crazy Feeling” on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand. Medical experts have always known myelin, the protective coating of nerve cells, to be metabolically inert. A study led by The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center has found that myelin is surprisingly dynamic, a discovery that has implications for treatment of multiple sclerosis and a type of myelin damage caused by some chemotherapy drugs, often referred to as “chemobrain.” Chemobrain can occur in up to 70 percent of patients receiving chemotherapy, leaving them with temporary and even permanent thinking and memory impairment.

SMG has therefore proactively paused moviegoing in all its theaters nationwide and has made the difficult decision to temporarily close all locations. SMG will refund all tickets pre-purchased and suspend billing customers on all subscription plans. Normal billing cycle will resume when the SMG circuit is fully re-opened.

EarShot Readings with Houston Symphony scheduled to take place in Houston, TX on May 5-7, 2020 have been postponed in an effort to reduce the spread of the new coronavirus (COVID-19). The Readings, led by conductor Christopher Rountree, were to have featured the following works by four emerging orchestral composers: José G. Martínez R.’s En El Otro Lado/On the Other Side, Patricia Martínez’s PHOSPHORUS, Marco-Adrián Ramos’ Rehén de tus labios, o Escena de telenovela, and Diana M. Rodriguez Aguilar’s Mudai. These four composers were selected from a pool of 137 applicants in an international call for scores, reviewed by a distinguished panel of mentor composers.

In commemoration of Harriet Tubman Day on March 10, internationally renowned actress, Gwendolyn Briley-Strand, brought Harriet Tubman to the Halls of Congress, and she brought some passengers with her. Local 1-2 of Utility Workers Union of America, AFL-CIO, Worcester County NAACP Branch, and HR 1242 Resilience Project were present to encourage Congress to introduce legislation to rename Virginia Inside Passage to the Harriet Tubman Waterway.
