In a positive crime summary report to Houston City Councilmembers today (Aug. 31), Houston Police Chief Troy Finner shared that violent crime in the City of Houston is down by 10% and overall crime is down 5% compared to the same time period one year ago.

Houston To Host The Inaugural Girl Boss Awards During Labor Day Weekend!
Houston has swiftly grown to one of the largest cities for women entrepreneurs. Some of the top small businesses are owned by “Girl Bosses”. The owners of Girl Boss Suites Co-working space are hosting the inaugural Girl Boss Awards to celebrate some of Houston’s most elite and hard working women in business. Since the top of the summer, Houstonians have submitted their choice of women that should be honored during the first Girls Boss Awards. Voting ends early August and the official selections will be announced Mid-August. Those that are selected will have the opportunity to be honored on September 2nd during the event at The Post Oak Hilton during a red carpet affair.

Turner Sworn In for Second Term

Over the weekend, the winner of the 2019 Readers’ Choice Award was announced at the inaugural Houston Literary Awards Gala. The contest began in August with a field of over 200 nominated local authors. The top five who garnered the most votes proceeded to the final round in September.
