The energy was electric as 21 young ladies jubilantly twirled in circles, nervously practiced their curtseys and carefully walked to ensure no missteps would be taken before they made their official debut at the biennial debutante ball hosted by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. – Alpha Kappa Omega Chapter. Each debutante’s brains, beauty, and benevolence were celebrated as “Royal Roses of Excellence” before a wall-to-wall crowd of onlookers and well wishers.

Texans defeat the Lions 30 – 23 to win their first preseason game

Texans fans got a glimpse of what the upcoming season is going to look like as they watched the hometown team defeat the Detroit Lions 30 – 23. The first team offense under new offensive coordinator Tim Kelly put together a great 75-yard scoring drive that was capped off by a 4-yard touchdown pass from Deshaun Watson to DeAndre Hopkins.

As a seasoned educator with over 20 years of classroom experience, my job has often felt never-ending. Summers were often spent trying to cram as much as I could into my realm of relaxation, without complaining that as a mother of 3, that relaxation that I had been dreaming about all school year may not live up to the hype. With all the added stress that being a parent to school-aged children brings to my job as a teacher, all I ever want to do in the summer is sleep a little later and not have to worry about planning anything. The only advantage of this for my children was the fact that if mommy is on break- we are ALL on break.

The Houston Texans resumed training camp today, with a joint practice with the Detroit Lions who is in town early for their preseason matchup with the Texans on Saturday at NRG Stadium. With the fans looking on, the competition got a little heated at times with trash talking by both teams being heard by fans, but it was all in fun. Here are a couple of things I noticed from today’s practice.
