Chairman Coleman Announces County Affairs Hearing in Houston
Chairman Garnet Coleman (D-Houston) has announced that the House Committee on County Affairs will meet in Houston on February 6th to hear from experts and the public regarding interim charges related to Hurricane Harvey and flooding. Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Ada Booth, M.D. and Ebony Todd and reappointed Michael Cokinos, Kandace Farmer, D.O., LuAnn Morgan, Jayaram Naidu, M.D., and Sherif Zaafran, M.D. to the Texas Medical Board for terms set to expire on April 13, 2027. The Board regulates the practice of medicine in Texas.

TSU announces historic new College of Transdisciplinary Studies
Texas Southern University is launching a new college that creates a pathway for people who started college, but did not complete their degree program. The College of Transdisciplinary Studies will assist students to continue their education and complete and earn a baccalaureate degree or master’s degree. This new college is the first ever college of transdisciplinary studies approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and offers a range of degree programs to satisfy the needs of students who have previously stopped out of higher education.

The announcement today is going to change lives by focusing needed resources on a problem that has gone too long without a remedy. Over the years I have been holding discussions and meeting cancer victims and listening to the stories of families who lost loved ones to cancer and other diseases over generations. We are desperate for relief. I have been disappointed by the unwillingness of previous Administrations to act to protect residents. Biden Administration has changed that by taking action.

This year’s festival served as an uplifting evening for the city of Houston after the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. Eric Benet gracefully gave words of encouragement as he embraced the crowd with resilience and compassion. This years host and emcee was non other than The Session Talk Show Host, Kia Renee!
