It was a Jolly-filled Night at Joy to the World!

The Bayou City Performing Arts presented Joy to the World, a holiday concerto commemorating 40 fabulous seasons. It was a special night featuring the Gay Men’s Chorus of Houston and the Bayou City Women’s Chorus held on National Worlds Aids Day. Hate crime data from the FBI is alarming. Since 2020, hate crimes have surged and continue their rancid ascent. As they continue to permeate the fabric of society, the University of Houston has been called upon by the Houston Coalition Against Hate (HCAH) to guide community-based organizations, which are on the front lines in leading communities through crisis, to come together to form a consolidated response to hate. HCAH is a network of community-based organizations, institutions and leaders who have united to reduce hate and encourage belonging.

The Family Wellness Check-In Program, implemented by Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston (BGCGH) in mid-March, has yielded valuable information for the nonprofit to better assist Club families during the COVID-19 health crisis. BGCGH staff began checking in with Club families via phone calls the week of March 16, focusing on immediate needs related to shelter, food and medical care. To date, 5,241 families have been contacted, with more than 1,000 families to be called in the coming week.
