Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® has always been an organization that of times of crisis, the members respond by stepping up, serving, and continuing the business at hand. The global pandemic of COVID-19 might have delayed their efforts but did not stop them. Treading in uncharted waters, the sorority used its virtual platforms to hold the first virtual election where Joya T. Hayes was declared the South Central Regional Director and installed into office at the 69th international convention of the 112-year-old organization. Hayes now leads 10,000+ members in more than 120 undergraduate and graduate chapters in the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Texas in the second largest region of the sorority.

Cancelled - Performing Arts Houston presents Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo's 50th Anniversary Tour

This performance has been cancelled due to the weather. Performing Arts Houston presents the return of Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo (the Trocks) as part of their 50th anniversary tour, on January 23, 2024, at Jones Hall. The all-male ballet company founded in 1974 will perform parodies of classical ballets Swan Lake and Paquita, as well as Yes Virginia, Another Piano Ballet, all performed en pointe.

Governor Abbott Names Chair And Appoints Four To Parks And Wildlife Commission

Governor Greg Abbott has appointed James Abell, Jeff Hildebrand, and Bobby Patton to the Parks and Wildlife Commission for terms set to expire on February 1, 2025. Additionally, the Governor reappointed Anna Benavides Galo for a term set to expire on February 1, 2021, and named Reed Morian chair of the commission.

This weekend, the Houston- and Northwest-Arkansas-based marketing and public relations agency, Market Street Consultants (Market Street Consulting LLC) was recognized by the Public Relations Society of America Houston Chapter (PRSA Houston) at its 37th annual Excalibur Awards for its team’s expertise and contributions to the public relations industry in the fourth-largest city in the United States. Market Street Consultants’ co-founder Juan Alanis was recognized as Public Relations Professional of the Year, while co-founder Anjelica Cazares received the award for Podcast of the Year.
