Voting was conducted by a select panel of members of the National Sports Media Association (NSMA). The voters selected Altuve for his torrid hitting throughout the month. In July, he batted .485 with four home runs, 21 RBI and a .727 slugging percentage.

Due to the construction of Post Oak Boulevard, the Annual Uptown Houston Holiday Lighting event, held on Thanksgiving evening, is being postponed until 2019. Post Oak Boulevard is currently being rebuilt into an exquisitely designed Grand Boulevard.

'Some remains' of Missing 10 Sailors Found After Collision, Admiral Says
'Some remains" of 10 missing US sailors have been found after the collision between the US destroyer John S. McCain and an oil tanker near Singapore, US Navy Adm. Scott Swift said Tuesday. Navy and Marine Corps divers found the remains in the sealed compartments aboard the McCain, said Swift, commander of the Pacific Fleet. The Royal Malaysian Navy has also located one body, and officials are working to determine if it is one of the missing sailors, he said. Divers have also located others.

On August 12, 2017, Pastor Hilliard escorted twenty-two girls via a coach bus to partake in a shopping spree at the Galleria Mall. Each girl received a budget of one-thousand dollars to shop at various stores such as Nordstroms, Aldo, H&M and Forever 21.

Houston … Mission Is a ‘Go’ Space Center Houston’s Crowdfunder Rockets Past Goal
Generous people around the world supported Space Center Houston’s mission to help restore NASA’s Historic Mission Control. The nonprofit’s first-ever crowdfunding campaign, "Webster Challenge: Restore Historic Mission Control,” more than doubled its initial Kickstarter goal and rocketed past the city of Webster matching funds to raise nearly $507,000. In total, $5 million is needed to restore and sustain this iconic area and, thanks to this successful campaign, Space Center Houston has raised more than $4 million toward that goal.

TSU Regents Confirm Melinda Spaulding as New VP of University Advancement
Texas Southern University’s Board of Regents unanimously confirmed Melinda Spaulding Chevalier as the new Vice President of University Advancement. Spaulding, an Emmy Award-winning journalist, will direct the university’s marketing, communications, development and alumni relations departments. The confirmation took place at the board’s quarterly meeting on August 18.
