State Rep. Gene Wu On Pending Bills in the Texas State Legislature

State Representative Gene Wu serves the people of District 137 which encompasses parts of Southwest Houston. Prior to being elected in 2012, he served as a prosecutor in the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, where he sought justice for thousands of crime victims. Gene is currently an attorney in private practice where he often represents minors in court in either criminal or CPS cases. Since being elected, he has maintained a focus on improving the lives of children in Texas. Wu is also Chinese American and grew up in the Sharpstown neighborhood in Southwest Houston.

The Trend Spotter summer event series is a platform for Houston Style Magazine and Macy's Sage to provide an awesome set of events to our city's bustling demographic of young adults looking for the next cool thing around town. On Tuesday, July 30th K. Michelle visited him to promote her Rebel Against event. It gives her new album, Rebellious Soul a bigger platform to make a major impact. She goes to various cities asking girls and women, "What are rebelling against?" In Houston, she partnered with Saving Our Daughters to host the Houston event. I wanted to know if you could blur the faces of the people walking around the background. A lot them are in hiding from their abusers. I don't know why they were trying to get on camera. Showing their faces could put their safety in danger.

NRA Convention Coverage by HSM Reporter, Dawn Paul

The 142nd NRA Annual Convention, Meetings and Exhibits was held at the George R. Brown Convention Center in the heart of downtown Houston, TX, May 3-5, 2013! With over 550 exhibitors covering over 400,000 square feet of exhibit hall space, educational seminars, celebrities, and fun filled special events, there was something for everyone! Dawn Paul spent the day exploring the products from every major firearm company in the country, checked out the hunt of a lifetime in the exclusive outfitter section, and viewed priceless collections of firearms in the gun collector area. Dawn Paul of Houston Style Magazine spoke with Congressman Al Green at the Annual Citywide All Hazard Community Field Exercise where he discussed all methods of Hurricane Preparedness. The Bureau of Public Health Preparedness (PHP) exists to build infrastructure to help the City respond to public health disasters through planning, outreach, training, exercise and response. Congressman Al Green shares how important it is to have a plan for what you and your family will do in an emergency. Consider how you will communicate with each other, where you will meet, and who you can leave messages with out-of-state if you can't reach people locally. The Southwest Regional office of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF hosted the fourth annual UNICEF Audrey Hepburn® Society Ball to celebrate UNICEF’s lifesaving work for children around the world and honored the outstanding humanitarians who make our work possible. UNICEF Ambassador and actress Angie Harmon received the Spirit of Compassion Award for her commitment to saving and protecting the lives of children in the United States and around the world. Rosanette and Harry Cullen were presented with the Margaret Alkek Williams Humanitarian Award for their extraordinary contributions to the causes of children, health and education in the city of Houston and the state of Texas through the Cullen Foundation. Emceed by Deborah Duncan, host of Great Day Houston, the evening featured a live performance by Grammy Award®winning recording artist and humanitarian Michael Bolton and an appearance by Mayor Sylvester Turner. Funds raised at the event will support UNICEF’s work to end child trafficking in the United States and around the world.
