UST Rising Stars Internship Program
University of St. Thomas-Houston (UST) and Houston Community College (HCC) have teamed up to offer students an opportunity to start their college career at HCC and smoothly transfer to UST’s Rising Stars Internship Program. UST President Richard Ludwick and HCC Chancellor Cesar Maldonado formalized the articulation agreement on UST’s campus during a signing ceremony on Monday, Aug. 28.

Saturday, May 18th marked the 6th Annual Women's Empowerment Conference (AWEC) hosted by founder Shantera Chatman at the prestigious Houstonian Hotel. The cozy ballroom was transformed into an atmosphere where over 180 women from various backgrounds, ethnicities, and careers were able to network, empower, and inspire one another while learning how to "Launch Her" in 2013. They will also enable HABJ to provide professional development, honor excellence in journalism and cultivate young journalists to enter the professional world of media through various outreach programs. HABJ will allot $20,000 in scholarships to deserving college students majoring in the media and communications field.

METRO and Houston ISD Honor Josue Flores | Full Press Event
Honoring Josue Flores: METRO today joined the Houston Independent School District and community partners in unveiling a new bus shelter at Northside High School. Josue would have graduated from Northside in May, and METRO dedicates this shelter memorial in his honor. JCPenney TEAMS UP WITH TEXANS JADEVEON CLOWNEY & JONATHAN JOSEPH TO Bring Holiday Cheer
This season, JCPenney is sharing the holiday spirit by extending its annual tradition of giving sprees for Y kids to also include a special shopping experience that will benefit Y families affected by Hurricane Harvey. JCPenney hosted a private shopping experience at its Meyerland Plaza store for 10 underserved kids from the YMCA of Greater Houston, along with three families deeply affected by Hurricane Harvey. Each child received a $100 JCPenney gift card used to shop for holiday gifts for their families. Additionally, JCPenney provided the three families with a $5,000 shopping spree to assist with their recovery and holiday gift shopping needs. Families also received a washer and dryer set courtesy of LG to replace appliances damaged by the hurricane. As part of the shopping experience, Houston Texans Jadeveon Clowney and Johnathan Joseph and Houston Astro Alex Bregman surprised the deserving kids and families with a special visit, and accompanied them as they shop the JCPenney store. The all-star lineup will help kids select perfect gifts for everyone on their lists and enable them to give back to loved ones.
