AWEC - Launch Her 2013 Social Recap by Dawn Paul
Saturday, May 18th marked the 6th Annual Women's Empowerment Conference (AWEC) hosted by founder Shantera Chatman at the prestigious Houstonian Hotel. The cozy ballroom was transformed into an atmosphere where over 180 women from various backgrounds, ethnicities, and careers were able to network, empower, and inspire one another while learning how to "Launch Her" in 2013. Broadway Actress DeQuina Moore of Flashdance speaks w/ Jo-Carolyn Goode
Broadway and Film Actress DeQuina Moore is a native Houstonian who is back in the city for Flashdance: the Musical playing at the Hobby Center starting June 4, 2013. She plays the sexy, sassy, scintillating "Kiki" in the 1980's hit movie turned musical "FLASHDANCE". DeQuina's powerhouse voice landed her the lead role of Kiki, a small-time club dancer "who's got a sassy step and a commanding, turn-men-to-stone voice". DeQuina was born and raised in Houston. She graduated from Houston's High School for the Performing and Visual ( HSPVA ) and trained at The Ensemble Theatre in their Young Performers Program. DeQuina left Houston to attend the prestigious New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and culminated with a major in Musical Theatre. Check out the "inside scoop" with Jo-Carolyn Goode!

The Trend Spotter summer event series is a platform for Houston Style Magazine and Macy's Sage to provide an awesome set of events to our city's bustling demographic of young adults looking for the next cool thing around town. Expect a unique fashion industry experience jam packed with light snacks/drinks, good music, networking, styling tips and an opportunity to support local community initiatives and organizations. Our first date highlights the nonprofit, Team Gini. Michael Strahan Interviews w/Rebecca Briscoe of HSM During TSU Spring 2013 Commencement
The campus of Texas Southern University was all abuzz after learning that the university's Board of Regents unanimously agreed to award the Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters to one of its top alumni. Super Bowl Champion, businessman, and broadcaster Michael Strahan was honored with the university's highest honor, the doctorate degree at Spring Commencement Exercises on Saturday, May 11th. This special moment occurred at the campus Health and PE Arena with over 10,000 in attendance! Houston Style Magazine's Rebecca Briscoe learned that Dr. John Rudley, university president, made a special trip to New York recently to officially make the offer to Strahan. While there and visiting the set of LIVE with Kelly and Michael, Rudley witnessed in person Strahan's magnetic personality and huge presence on and off the stage. Rudley was accompanied on the trip by Eva Pickens, TSU's Associate Vice President of Communications and Community Relations. Please check the video here for the "inside scoop."

The 142nd NRA Annual Convention, Meetings and Exhibits was held at the George R. Brown Convention Center in the heart of downtown Houston, TX, May 3-5, 2013! With over 550 exhibitors covering over 400,000 square feet of exhibit hall space, educational seminars, celebrities, and fun filled special events, there was something for everyone! Dawn Paul spent the day exploring the products from every major firearm company in the country, checked out the hunt of a lifetime in the exclusive outfitter section, and viewed priceless collections of firearms in the gun collector area.
