The Retrieval Synopsis: On the outskirts of the Civil War, an orphaned boy is sent north by a bounty hunter to retrieve a wanted man under false pretenses. During their arduous journey back, the initially distant pair form an unexpected bond. And the boy is consumed with conflicting emotions and a gut-wrenching decision: betray the father figure he's finally found. Or, risk the same deadly demise as the man in his charge.

UNICEF Ambassador and actress Angie Harmon received the Spirit of Compassion Award for her commitment to saving and protecting the lives of children in the United States and around the world. Rosanette and Harry Cullen were presented with the Margaret Alkek Williams Humanitarian Award for their extraordinary contributions to the causes of children, health and education in the city of Houston and the state of Texas through the Cullen Foundation. Emceed by Deborah Duncan, host of Great Day Houston, the evening featured a live performance by Grammy Award®winning recording artist and humanitarian Michael Bolton and an appearance by Mayor Sylvester Turner. Funds raised at the event will support UNICEF’s work to end child trafficking in the United States and around the world.

Mayor Turner gives his remarks on the TEA taking over HISD

Mayor Turner shares his thoughts on TEA taking over HISD. Under the current superintendent and new school board, there has been significant progress made in HISD. Forty of 50 former D or F schools are in a much better status today. “This takeover is not about the quality of education. If you look at the Texas Legislature, several bills have been filed to pre-empt the authority of the city of Houston and other local jurisdictions. HISD happens to be one of those local jurisdictions. You cannot run school districts, cities, and counties from Austin, Texas. You tell me how this benefits the kids? Instead of grading the students and the teachers, the Texas Education Agency needs to grade themselves on how they are handling this matter. I give them an F." - Mayor Turner

Drawing inspiration from his role model, his father, Sid has become an ally, an advocate and champion for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at work and in the community — most recently as an executive board member at the YMCA of Greater Houston. Under his board leadership, the Y’s first computer lab was established and eventually became the foundation for its path in bridging the digital divide.

Houston Pride 2016

2016 marks 38 years of the Houston LGBT Pride Celebration®, the OFFICIAL Pride of Houston. It was held in DOWNTOWN HOUSTON with the Honorary Grand Marshal, Imran Yusuf was presented, along with a rainbow flag honoring the Orlando victims. Houston Style Magazine was on hand to capture so fun moments!
