Muhammad Ali, who was one of the greatest boxers to ever live once uttered a phrase that was heard throughout the boxing world and in homes all across the country. “The champ is here,” he said with the confidence of an individual who just knew that he would not lose. I am certain that’s how the Houston Texans felt in the last game of the regular season with the AFC South divisional title on the line. Houston defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars by a score of 20 – 3 in front of a home crowd of over 71, 000 who celebrated the victory with them.

On Sunday, Major League Baseball honored the Negro National League and it’s 100th year anniversary. Everyone associated with the MLB had on Negro Leagues 100th anniversary logos at all ball parks. The NNL was formed during the 1920s and was the first of the seven leagues formed for “Colored Players.” The “Negro Leagues” were established because black players were not allowed in MLB.

But for Texans cornerback Jonathan Joseph, linebacker Dylan Cole, and defensive tackle Carlos Watkins, it was work as usual. Just not their regular day jobs. Along with their mascot Toro and cheerleaders, the players teamed up with United Airlines at George Bush Intercontinental Airport for a meet and greet with airline personnel and customers.

The Astros celebrated catcher Martin Maldonado’s birthday with a walk-off win

Kyle Tucker capped off a great birthday weekend for his teammate Martin Maldonado. His walk-off homerun in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Astros (11-10) a 3-2 win over the Seattle Mariners (7-16) and capped off a sweep of the series. Houston is now on a four-game winning streak and have won five out of the six games they have played in Minute Made Park.
