Earlier this season, Astros manager Dusty Baker called his All-Star left fielder Michael Brantley a “Professional Hitter.” On Tuesday night Brantley held true to that title by blasting a two-run homerun over the right field wall which proved to be all the runs the Astros (20-15) would need as they defeated the Texas Rangers (13-22) 2-1 at Minute Maid Park. It was Brantley’s second homerun in as many games against the Rangers having hit a three-run shot the night before.

Houston Texans associate head coach Romeo Crennel is that one person that can strike up a friendly conversation with anyone he meets. His outgoing personality lights up any room he steps into. But once that headset goes on and he is calling out schemes and coverages, he is as ferocious as they come. That tenacity was rewarded by the Pro Football Writers of America when they named Crennel the 16th recipient of the Paul “Dr. Z” Zimmerman Award for lifetime achievement as an assistant coach in the NFL.

On last week the 24-year old right-handed pitcher earned his first Major League win against the Seattle Mariners and picked up another victory against the Los Angeles Angels. Both came in relief outings, but those performances were good enough to gain the confidence of manager Dusty Baker and he earned a spot in the starting rotation.
