Starting Over
Astros stay hot at home defeating the Angels to open 10-game homestand
One day after losing another heartbreaker in San Diego. The Houston Astros (16-13) bounced back to take game 1 of the four-game series against the Los Angeles Angels (9-21) at Minute Maid Park. Super phenom outfielder Kyle Tucker second inning 404-ft homerun got the Astros hit parade started and they never looked back after that.
A Very Mean Underdog
Astros face the A’s in the Best-Of-Five American League Division Series
I don’t think Major League Baseball could have scripted the American League Division Series matchup between the Houston Astros and the Oakland A’s even if they tried as hard as they could. No matter what the schedule looked like towards the end of the season, this matchup was not in the cards. But it’s definitely something that the MLB will promote as much as they can to baseball fans to build the postseason drama.
Making Up For Lost Time
Astros go extra innings to close out the series against the Angels
Have you ever heard of the phrase, “Making up for lost time?” It seems like it is becoming the mantra for the 2020 MLB season for the Houston Astros after an over three-month layoff due the COVID-19. On Sunday, Houston (5-4) defeated the Los Angeles Angels (3-7) by a score of 6-5 in extra innings to win the series 2-1. The game was the Astros third extra inning game out of the last four played.
Almost Doesn’t Count: Texans Fall to 0-3 After Another Slow Start Against the New York Giants
There is an old cliché’ that says, “Slow and steady wins the race.” Although it’s a great cliché if you are running long distance, it does not work in the National Football League. The Houston Texans got off to a terrible first half start and it cost them the game. They lost to the New York Giants 27 – 22 to fall to 0-3 on the season and have a tough divisional opponent next week in the Indianapolis Colts. This is not the way they envisioned their season starting, but they can only take it one game at a time.
Optimistically Upset
Texans lose season opener to the Saints on a last-second field goal
“Barefield. You almost got it,” said one of my teammates on the basketball team in high school. What he was referring to was my attempt to try and dunk a basketball. I was very close. So close that after a few tries I just hung on the rim. It gave me a sense that one day soon I would complete the task of dunking like my favorite NBA player at the time, Dominique Wilkins.
2019 SWAC Media Day
The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) held its annual Media Day with one of the biggest issues being addressed by SWAC Commissioner Dr. Charles McClelland. The conference has announced the permanent future of its football championship game which will be played at the home site of the highest ranked team at the conclusion of the regular season.
Houston Fans Witness A Non-Traditional Walk Off As The Astros Defeat The Diamondbacks
One thing I have never witnessed until Friday night in the Astros 4-3 extra innings victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks was a bases-loaded walk-off hit by pitch. No, you did not misread that last sentence. Yes, the Astros won a game with a walk-off hit by pitch. The last time Houston got a victory in that fashion was on Aug. 8, 1998. It was also the third time in franchise history that it has happened.
Panthers Bounce Back To Win Home Opener Against HBU
PRAIRIE VIEW, Tx – The Prairie View A&M University football team played it’s first home game since November 16, 2019, on Saturday and they did not let the fans down with a 37-27 victory over Houston Baptist University.
Astros Score Late Inning Runs To Blowout The Angels
“If you can win the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings, you have a chance to win the ballgame, and if you are behind you have a chance to get back in the ballgame,” Baker said after the game. “I have always managed that way and I always preach to the team to win the eighth and the ninth innings.”
Texans Training Camp Day 8
“We just finished with a two-minute drill, and although it is the Texans playing each other, if I was on the offensive side of the ball, I'd have felt like we lost the game today,” coach Culley said.
Repeat Performance
Texans drop season opener to the Chiefs
For at least four hours on Thursday night, America felt normal again because the NFL was back. In spite of everything this country has been through with the COVID-19 global pandemic, football is something that can help mentally take away all of the disastrous events that has happened this year. Unfortunately for the Houston Texans their woes continued as their 2020 NFL season began the same way their 2019 season ended with a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Rockets must dig deep to stave off elimination in Game 5 against the Lakers
The Houston Rockets will be in a familiar place in Game 5 of the Western Conference Semifinals on Saturday inside the bubble at Disney Orlando as they face the Los Angeles Lakers down 3-1 in the best-of-seven series. They faced elimination late last month against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round and was able to come away victorious in Game 7 thanks to a huge defensive effort by superstar James Harden.
Let It Be Known
Greinke calls out pitches from the mound in Astros victory
Babe Ruth’s called homerun in the 1932 World Series against the Chicago Cubs is by far one of the greatest sports debates of all time. Many have agreed that Ruth repeatedly pointed to the outfield to indicate that he was going to hit a homerun. Others have debunked the theory by saying that he was pointing towards the pitcher or the bullpen that had been talking trash to him all game.
The Comeback 2
Houston brings back old memories for Oiler fans after losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Divisional Game 51-31
In 1996, Bud Adams decided that his time was up here in Houston and moved the team to Tennessee. He had been battling the city for a new stadium and when he didn’t get it, he loaded the U-Haul truck and headed to Nashville. In that truck was all the team history that had accumulated over the years since the team became a charter member in the American Football League in the 1960s.
Running Back David Johnson Holds First Press Conference As A Houston Texan
Newly acquired running back David Johnson met the Houston sports media for the first time on Friday. Just like head coach Bill O’Brien did a day earlier, Johnson talked to reporters via the Zoom app from his home.
Prairie View A&M defeats Texas Southern 44- 23 in 35th Annual Labor Day Classic behind Tucker’s three touchdowns.
Prairie View A&M put the rest of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) on notice that they will be a force to be reckoned with this season. They picked up right where they left off last year by displaying their very aggressive and high-octane offense in the 35th Annual Labor Day Classic.

Caliente: The Houston Astros are blazing through the rest of the AL
They say history has a strange way of repeating itself. If that is true, then some Astros fans need to be putting in for vacation days from work in October for the World Series parade in downtown Houston. The Astros became the first team to reach 70-wins in the American League this year after defeating the Cleveland Indians on last Thursday. They are currently on pace to go over 100 wins for the third straight year and would be the first team since the 2002-04 Yankees to do so. Having won 14 of their last 17 games and 8-2 in their last 10, they also hold a very sizeable lead in the AL West at 8.5.
Texans Training Camp 19: Texans participate in joint practice with the Green Bay Packers
The Houston Texans resumed training camp after having a day of rest and traveling to Green Bay to hold two joint session practices before the team’s first preseason game on Thursday against the Packers. Here are a couple of takeaways from today’s scrimmage:
Around The Bases: Astros Drop Series Against Mariners
I don’t want to get too excited nine games into the season, but rookie shortstop Jeremy Peña is giving me those “It” factor vibes with his play so far. Even though he was given the day off in the last game of the series, he made his presence felt in the second game.
