There is an old cliché in sports that goes, “Sometimes is better to be lucky than to be good.” The Houston Astros found that out in the bottom of the 11th inning in a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Texas Rangers at Minute Maid Park on Thursday night.
XFL Returns to Houston
Oliver Luck stood at the podium and flashed his huge smile that most Houstonians remember from his time as a quarterback for the Houston Oilers, CEO of Houston Sports Authority, and President/GM of the Houston Dynamo. Luck was in town to announce the new coach and general manager of the XFL team that will begin play in Houston at TDEC Stadium at the beginning of 2020.

Muhammad Ali, who was one of the greatest boxers to ever live once uttered a phrase that was heard throughout the boxing world and in homes all across the country. “The champ is here,” he said with the confidence of an individual who just knew that he would not lose. I am certain that’s how the Houston Texans felt in the last game of the regular season with the AFC South divisional title on the line. Houston defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars by a score of 20 – 3 in front of a home crowd of over 71, 000 who celebrated the victory with them.

Walking from the parking lot to the NRG Stadium you could feel an overwhelming spirit resonating throughout the air. Something that wasn’t felt over a week ago when the city was in the midst of a catastrophic natural disaster, Hurricane Harvey. The hurricane was an event that the residents of Houston and surrounding areas are still recovering from. Normalcy was the one thing that the city needed and the Houston Texans looked to help restore the city.

The Astros celebrated catcher Martin Maldonado’s birthday with a walk-off win
Kyle Tucker capped off a great birthday weekend for his teammate Martin Maldonado. His walk-off homerun in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Astros (11-10) a 3-2 win over the Seattle Mariners (7-16) and capped off a sweep of the series. Houston is now on a four-game winning streak and have won five out of the six games they have played in Minute Made Park.

On December 7th, Houston Rockets backup point guard Eric Gordon made a statement that was not only heard around the Rockets locker room but the entire city of Houston. The team had just dropped its second game in a row, a loss to the Utah Jazz where the team was very lethargic.
Leslie Alexander Puts Houston Rockets Franchise On the Market
“It’s been my great joy and honor to own the Houston Rockets for the past 24 years.” These were the words spoken by current Houston Rockets owner Leslie Alexander in a prepared statement as he announced his plans to sell the franchise. Alexander purchased the team in July 1993 for $85 million (currently valued at $1.65 billion) from Charlie Thomas. The sale of the team came right after the Rockets were coming off a grueling seven game series against the Seattle Supersonics and it came at a time when Houston was in desperate need of an identity.

During a press conference after the 2020 NBA All-Star game, Antetokounpo said his team’s defensive scheme towards the end of the game was, to get the ball to whoever James Harden was guarding.

In 1996, Bud Adams decided that his time was up here in Houston and moved the team to Tennessee. He had been battling the city for a new stadium and when he didn’t get it, he loaded the U-Haul truck and headed to Nashville. In that truck was all the team history that had accumulated over the years since the team became a charter member in the American Football League in the 1960s.
