Baker talks about the MLB honoring the Centennial Year for the Negro National League

On Sunday, Major League Baseball honored the Negro National League and it’s 100th year anniversary. Everyone associated with the MLB had on Negro Leagues 100th anniversary logos at all ball parks. The NNL was formed during the 1920s and was the first of the seven leagues formed for “Colored Players.” The “Negro Leagues” were established because black players were not allowed in MLB.

After a heartbreaking 20-19 loss to open the season against Prairie View A&M, Texas Southern will enter the bye week looking to address some in-game mistakes that helped aid the Panthers in the Labor Day Classic at Prairie View this past Saturday. The Tigers (0-1) had a total of four turnovers (2 fumbles, 2 interceptions) with one fumble coming on the potential game winning drive that was recovered by the Panthers.

You may not have payed attention to what went on off 290 this year, but Prairie View A&M University women’s soccer team assembled a group of young ladies looking to make a long run for years to come. The Lady Panthers set a record for most wins in a single season at 13 and brought home the first Southwestern Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament Championship with a 1-0 victory over Howard.
