Say His Name: George Floyd
Many from around the world came to Houston, Texas to say a final goodbye to George Floyd
As I walked inside of the Fountain of Praise sanctuary where the public memorial for George Floyd was being held, a cold, eerie, and chilling feeling came over my body. It caused me to take a pause stopping me in my tracks before I took my next step. I began to replay the audio from the murderous video of the tragic day that Floyd died in an almost nine-minute encounter in my mind.
Can’t Take the Memories
Roughnecks season cut short due to coronavirus
The sports world has suffered some major setbacks during this coronavirus pandemic. For the first time since 1939, there will be no men’s champion in NCAA postseason, also a first for women since the NCAA began hosting that tournament in 1981-82. There also won’t be any spring sports (baseball, track & field, softball, etc.) in high school or college athletics this year. I can imagine that whenever the name of 15-year old tennis phenom Cori ‘Coco’ Gauff is brought up that a certain young lady in the city of Houston face lights up with excitement. It’s as if she is looking at a direct reflection of herself on television. Before Venus and Serena Williams was ripping through the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) at a rapid pace, there was another African American young lady who paved the way for them as well.

The Test Of A Man NFL Regional Combine-Houston, Texas
I walked into the NRG practice facility for the NFL franchise Houston Texans and saw all the young men stretching and getting themselves prepared for their early morning job interviews. Great Run Comes to an End
Prairie View A&M loses to Fairleigh Dickinson in the first game of the 2019 NCAA tournament
As I stepped on the illustrious campus of Prairie View A&M University in the fall of 1997, I will never forget that sense of pride and family atmosphere I felt run through my body. It was like the spirits of the “Unknown 8” (The first known class of the Alta Vista Agriculture & Mechanical College for Colored Youth who enrolled and began their studies March 11, 1878) was walking with me. Until you have been on the first state supported college in Texas for African Americans and the second oldest public institution of higher education in the state, you won’t know the jubilation of screaming out, “Who Ya Rooting For” at all sporting events.
