Music has always been a connecting element for African Americans. From the moment we knew there was sound, we have used it to make music as a way to both entertain and communicate. In the early years, music was made with the use of our mouths and body parts. We advanced to add the dimensions of instruments. Those various sounds combine to make beautiful music and our yearn for a larger platform to showcase our musical talents grew.

Houston Texans Announce Expansion of Girls Flag Program
Program will now include high school teams from Houston ISD
Today, the Houston Texans announced the expansion of their Girls FLAG Football Program. The program will feature 12 high school teams from Houston Independent School District (HISD), the eighth largest school district in the nation, and nine high school teams from the Texas Charter School Academic and Athletic League. The girls will compete in a six-week season, with gameplay beginning on April 13 and concluding in mid-May. The championship games to be held at the Houston Methodist Training Center.
Alexandra del Moral Mealer Sworn Into METRO Board of Directors
Today Alexandra (Alex) del Moral Mealer was sworn in as the newest member of the METRO Board of Directors. The ceremony took place in the METRO Boardroom with Harris County Commissioner Tom Ramsey administering the oath. Alex was appointed to represent a group of 14 smaller cities that are within METRO's service area.

The space would become Emancipation Park, the central hub of generations coming together with a sense of community. Passing years has seen the park at its ups and downs causing it to be revitalized in 2006 by TIRZ7 and again this year with a $33 million renovation.
