Alpha Kappa Omega Presents 21 Young Ladies in Society Debut
The energy was electric as 21 young ladies jubilantly twirled in circles, nervously practiced their curtseys and carefully walked to ensure no missteps would be taken before they made their official debut at the biennial debutante ball hosted by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. – Alpha Kappa Omega Chapter. Each debutante’s brains, beauty, and benevolence were celebrated as “Royal Roses of Excellence” before a wall-to-wall crowd of onlookers and well wishers.
DJ Reader is On a Mission of Love
He was his teacher. He was his mentor. He was his best friend. David Reader Sr. was everything to his son, Houston Texans’ Defensive Nose Tackle David Vernon Jr. or DJ. Four years ago Reader lost his father to a disease that claims the lives of more people than breast or prostate cancer. An estimated 661,000 Americans have kidney disease according to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases yet little is known about this deadly disease. Reader wants to change that as a tribute to his father on a mission of love.
Midterm Elections 2018: The Year of Women
“Make America Great Again” was the promise Donald Trump made two years ago when he became the leader of the free world. Improved health care, a better economy, and a border wall paid for by Mexico were on our horizon. What we got was scandalous investigations, corrupt international relations, and a flood of offensives that would have caused the start of impeachment hearings for any other seating US President. Trump’s racist rants and loathly lies have divided America versus bringing us together. America’s outlook was bleak rather than bright. Then midterms roll around and Americans who had enough of Trump ran, not walked, to the polls to turn lands that were once red, blue (or almost blue) again. Now with this shift in power, will America rise from the ashes of hate and stagnation to finally allow love and progress to prevail? If that happens then America can truly be great.
Mental Health Is a Problem for All Not Just Some
Being imbalanced is a problem that everyone has had to deal with at some point in their life more than once and will have to deal with it again. Life is stressful and can cause anyone anxiety. Mental health surveys indicate that 60% of the American population has experienced significant levels of mental and/or emotional unwellness since the onset of the global pandemic. A 2020 Kaiser family study indicated that Texans have had an increase in their levels of anxiety and depression from an average of 37.7% before the pandemic to 40.1% during the pandemic. Difficulties are with individuals owning this as their reality as a threat to their mental health can be an even bigger problem than dealing with stress and anxiety itself.

Upon their husbands answering the call to minister, preachers’ wives stood alongside their husband in a supportive role. Even when their husbands would further follow the path as a shepherd of God by heading a church, wives remained supportive in their new role as First Lady.

Eight Young Black Men Earned Highest Award for Boy Scouts
Our young black men struggle day to stay alive, not to fall to peer pressure of negative influences, and to stay on the successful rite of passage. Since this is such a treacherous for our young black boys and men successes should be celebrated to encourage and motivate them to continue on that right path. Such young men are being honored for an achievement that few have earned. It is the highest and the most distinguished honor for a member of the Boy Scouts of America, the Eagle Award.

We grew to know him first as a funnyman with the boyish good looks on HBO’s Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam coining the “booty call.” He became a regular on shows on MTV before he branched out into movies.
