Music is a great storyteller. Through written words, a story is told, of course. But, the story set to music also comes alive in all of us with the emotions the music evokes. Hearing a particular song can cause one to smile, cry, laugh, and/or feel comfort, pain, relaxation, or any other sentiment. And, in African American history, music has always been a storyteller for the messages and information music communicates. Slaves escaping the plantation often used the guise of music to send encrypted messages to each other. This is why music is so important to the African American culture and any culture in the world.

Under the embrace of perfect Spring weather, Houstonians flocked to the picturesque McGovern Centennial Gardens on Thursday, April 4th, for a cause close to their hearts – the sixth annual Party in the Park fundraiser for Yellowstone Schools. This enchanting evening saw laughter, music, and camaraderie fill the air, as attendees came together to show their support. The event proved not only a social highlight but also a substantial success, with over $778,000 raised, a feat made even more remarkable by a generous matching donation from On Track Ministries.
Houston Texans Announce Expansion of Girls Flag Program
Program will now include high school teams from Houston ISD
Today, the Houston Texans announced the expansion of their Girls FLAG Football Program. The program will feature 12 high school teams from Houston Independent School District (HISD), the eighth largest school district in the nation, and nine high school teams from the Texas Charter School Academic and Athletic League. The girls will compete in a six-week season, with gameplay beginning on April 13 and concluding in mid-May. The championship games to be held at the Houston Methodist Training Center.

Lestine Goode was a devote Christian, family man, and most importantly, my daddy. He ran the race and fought the good fight but sadly succumbed to his illness. He was laid to rest on July 24, 2019, after having a funeral worthy of the distinguished man he was. Fat is one of the ugliest words in the English language for the negative connotation it carries as far as Dee Moore is concerned. For the majority of her life she has been a woman with curves. Like most plus size women, she has endured a lot of pain being the butt of jokes and focus of judgmental eyes. Moore got criticism from everywhere but what hurt most was criticism she received from men who were suppose to love her. The constant disrespect greatly damaged her self esteem until one day she had enough. No longer would Moore allow words to damage her self-worth. She would remove the power those words had over her and other women as well.
