Winners On Display At T.S.U.'s University Museum, Through Aug 30th
This year the African American Art Advisory Association (5A) of the Museum of Fine Art Houston celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Citywide African American Artists Exhibition. The Exhibit will be hosted at different venues and spaces across the city, including the University Museum at Texas Southern University and the Glassell School of Art at the Museum of Fine Arts. The Houston Citywide African American Artists Exhibition is open to all artists of the African diaspora in the greater Houston area. It is sponsored by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, through 5A (the African American Art Advisory Association at the MFAH) and the University Museum at Texas Southern University.

2022 Texas Artist of the Year & Lifetime Achievement Award in the Visual Arts
Art League Houston is proud to present, Bitter Waters Sweet, an exhibition of new work by Fort Worth artist Letitia Huckaby, the 2022 Texas Artist of the Year. In her exhibition, Letitia Huckaby explores the legacy of Africatown, the historic community near Mobile, Alabama, that was founded by a group of West African people who were trafficked to the U.S. as slaves shortly before Emancipation, and long after the Atlantic slave trade was banned. The ship that brought them, the Clotilda, was scuttled in Mobile Bay shortly after delivering its cargo in 1860 to conceal its illegal activity. The wreckage was rediscovered in 2018 and is currently the subject of active archaeological research.

The concert will feature the Houston Symphony performing live, to picture, every note from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Audiences will be able to relive the magic of the entire film in high-definition on a 40-foot screen while hearing the Houston Symphony perform John Williams’ unforgettable score live. Audiences experienced an electrifying night on Saturday as they danced in their seats and sang along to their favorite Queen songs with the Houston Symphony. Creating a rock concert atmosphere, audience members waved their flashlights to the music.
