Fort Bend County Epicenter to Host Fort Bend ISD High School Graduations in Multiyear Partnership
11 Fort Bend ISD high schools will have graduations this May at the County’s new multipurpose venue
Fort Bend ISD and the Epicenter have entered into a five-year partnership to host high school graduations starting in 2024. The 2024 graduations will be celebrated on Thursday, May 23, Friday, May 24, and Saturday, May 25. Austin, Bush, Clements, Dulles, Elkins, Hightower, Kempner, Marshall, Ridge Point, Travis, and Willowridge High Schools will be scheduled across the three days of commencements. Crawford, Fort Bend ISD’s newest high school, will be added with their first graduation class in 2026.

Representatives Sheila Jackson Lee (TX-18), Al Green (TX-09), Marc Veasey (TX-33) and Steven Horsford (NV-04) held a call with regional reporters calling on the Senate to take up the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, which passed the House in June with bipartisan support. The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act reimagines policing for the 21st Century by banning chokeholds, stopping no-knock warrants, combatting racial profiling, eliminating qualified immunity, and mandating data collection, including body cameras and dashboard cameras. The University of Houston has received a $4.5 million gift from the Thomas Michael Panos Family Estate to establish an endowed chair in the Cullen College of Engineering; a scholarship endowment available to students throughout the University; and an endowed lecture series focused on equity and social justice, which will reside in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. An additional $2 million has been matched by the University’s new “$100 Million Challenge” Aspire Fund. This is the first matched gift since the fund was established, making the total impact of the Panos Family Estate gift at least $6.5 million.

American Federation of Teachers on Arizona Budget Proposal for Teachers
The Arizona American Federation of Teachers and its parent union, the American Federation of Teachers, responded to Gov. Doug Ducey’s budget proposal that would take $100 million from a package originally earmarked for school funding and allow superintendents to decide whether to use it to pay for wage hikes for support workers or for school maintenance, classroom resources and other school needs. Ducey has already offered a proposal for a 20 percent pay raise for teachers by 2020.
