Old Growth Ventures LLC announces the Victor Street Historic Shotgun Row House Rehabilitation Project to save and rehab the last iconic shotgun house row in Houston’s Freedmen’s Town National Register Historic District. The Victor Street shotguns were recently acquired by Old Growth Ventures’ Historic Preservation Fund I, L.P. The historic rehab is expected to be completed by June, saving the last remaining iconic shotgun house row in Houston’s original African American community.

The Houston Area Urban League (HAUL) has partnered with national charity Delivering Good (Formerly K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers) to help families affected by flooding in the greater Houston area caused by Hurricane Harvey. HAUL and Delivering Good will launch four, local pop-up shops in Houston, providing free, private shopping experiences on Saturday, October 21 as a part of HAUL’s Operation Safe Houston Hurricane Relief project.

New Data Reveals Neighborhoods Impacted By Urban Heat Effect

On August 7, 2020, the Houston Harris Heat Action Team (H3AT)—a collaboration be- tween Houston Advanced Research Center (HARC), the City of Houston, Harris County Public Health (HCPH), and The Nature Conservancy of Texas (TNC) — held a one-day urban heat island mapping effort with the help of 84 community scien- tists, and funding support from Lowe’s and Shell. The effort was part of the 2020 Heat Watch program led by CAPA Strategies and the National Oceanic and At- mospheric Administration (NOAA), and it resulted in a total of 320 square miles of Houston and Harris County being mapped by local residents.
