Hello Harris County! Fall is just around the corner and we are all looking forward to the rest of the year which is panning out to be very busy. In case you missed it, the Harris County Clerk’s Office (HCCO) was recognized at Commissioners Court on August 23rd with a Resolution from Precinct One Commissioner Rodney Ellis for our award winning Back-to-School Birth Certificate events. Our office opened on two consecutive Saturdays to help families obtain their children’s birth certificates for back-to-school registration. This recognition inspires us to continue to strive for excellence.

Harris County DA’s Domestic Violence Division to unveil new facility, donate over $440,000 to community partners
In recent years, a courthouse under renovation and the coronavirus pandemic scattered domestic violence resources to different corners of Harris County, forcing victims to go to multiple locations to seek help, such as filing for protective orders and finding information about shelters and other resources. It was an ordeal that proved confusing and potentially put them at greater risk.
Diana Ramirez Named Interim Harris County Administrator
Ramirez becomes the first woman and first Latina county administrator of the third-largest county in U.S.
In a 4-1 vote, Harris County Commissioners approved a motion by Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones to nominate Diana Ramirez as interim Harris County Administrator. Ramirez will be the first woman and first Latina to hold the position, which is responsible for implementing the Commissioners Court’s policies and goals. Ramirez currently serves as the executive director of the Harris County Department of Economic Equity and Opportunity. She joined Harris County in August 2021 after 30 years of public service, including executive experience as the Assistant Budget Director of Travis County and working for the Texas General Land Office and Texas Health & Human Services.

World Sickle Cell Day, which is June 19th, was created by the United Nations as a day to raise awareness of sickle cell at national and international levels. In creating this day of awareness the United Nations has recognized sickle cell disease as, “one of the world’s foremost genetic diseases.” The Brown family of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, knows all too well the challenges of this painful and debilitating disease. Their son, Kelvin Jr., has been battling sickle cell disease since he was diagnosed as an infant.

A second major disclosure of major consumer data breach was announced on July 29 by Capital One Bank. That same day, the FBI arrested a suspect was charged with stealing the personal information on March 22 and 23. The apparent focus of the financial theft was credit card applications filed with the bank between 2005-2019.
