The Department of Neighborhoods (DON) is proud to announce the Complete Communities University (CCU) Class of Spring 2023 graduation. Twenty-eight aspiring community leaders from neighborhoods throughout the city received certificates of course completion at a graduation ceremony held on May 3, 2023, at City Hall. The program featured a keynote address by Mayor Sylvester Turner and remarks by Shannon Buggs, Director of the Mayor's Office of Complete Communities, and TaKasha Francis, DON Director.

July at the Houston Bicycle Museum will be our most ambitious month in two and a half years of operation. The month will be full of events and begins Friday, June 30, 8pm-11pm with a Sneak Preview of the Museum's first annual juried art exhibit: “The Bicycle – the Subculture, Camraderie, and Lifestyle” A call was sent out to Houston's art community for submissions in a wide variety of mediums and the only guideline was that bicycle-themed entries were preferred.

Mayor Sylvester Turner led the rededication ceremony of Emancipation Park, together with OST/Almeda Redevelopment Corridors TIRZ#7, Emancipation Park Conservancy and the Houston Parks and Recreation Department, on Saturday, June 17, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. A day long festival (10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) was held in conjunction with the rededication.

Atlanta-based Tin Drum Asian Kitchen, a Pan Asian restaurant that transports its guests to a street side café in Asia, complete with hawker style cuisine and atmosphere, will open the first of five restaurants in Houston this year. Tin Drum has tapped experienced Houston restaurateurs Shairoz Lakhani, Avez Maredia and Faizan Momin to own and operate the five units in the Houston area.
