HISD District IV Candidate is Off to a Strong Start
The Matt Barnes for HISD Campaign announced that it raised $18,246 for its first campaign finance report for Houston Independent School District, District IV. This comes shortly after he threw his name in the race in mid- June. “I’m truly humbled by the amount of support I’ve received over the last few weeks,” said Barnes. “People are ready to see a change in our school system to ensure HISD students receive an excellent education and I’m ready to work in achieving that.”

METRO is providing free rides Friday, Nov. 3 for all services to help ease traffic congestion in downtown Houston during the Houston Astros World Series Championship Parade. Fans are encouraged to use the buses and METRORail. There will be parking available along the rail corridor, Minute Maid Park Lot C and the NRG Stadium Orange Lot. Houston Selected to Develop Financial Counseling as Free Public Service for Low-Income Residents
Houston and the national Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund (CFE Fund) announced today their selection to replicate the proven Financial Empowerment Center (FEC) model under the new FEC Public national platform. Houston will receive technical assistance and a seed grant to bring free, high-quality, one-on-one financial counseling to Houston residents. Acres Homes, Gulfton, Second Ward, Near Northside and Third Ward are the first neighborhoods selected for the mayor’s new Complete Communities initiative.
