Alliance Wellness Clinic Receives $750,000 Grant to Launch Innovative Domestic Violence Intervention Initiative
Project focused on potential harm doers to stop violence before it happens awarded grant on behalf of the Mayor’s Office of Human Trafficking and Domestic Violence
The Alliance was recently awarded $750,000 of grant funding from the City of Houston Mayor’s Office of Human Trafficking and Domestic Violence (MOHTDV) to design, execute, and administer an evidence-based, preventive, domestic violence intervention program. The MOHTDV’s goal is to provide funding for projects that are innovative, culturally competent, and focused on intervening in communities of color and ethnic minorities when it comes to preventing domestic violence.
Study of Prostate Cancer in African-American Men Recruiting
When it comes to African-American men and prostate cancer, the statistics are alarming. One in six African-American men will be diagnosed with the disease, and they are twice as likely as white men to die of prostate cancer. Their cancer is more aggressive, and it starts at a much younger age than any other group. Researchers at Baylor College of Medicine are joining with research institutions across the country to find out why.

Funeral services will take place in Houston, TX at Second Baptist Church on Wednesday, August 9th at 11:00 a.m. On Thursday, August 10th, Governor White will be driven to Austin, TX where he will lay in state in the Capitol rotunda from 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., after which he will be driven to the Texas State Cemetery to be laid to rest in a private ceremony for family.
