Houston Parks Board and its partners are pleased to announce the Mason Park Bridge Grand Opening event slated for Saturday, Sept. 22. Community members along Brays Bayou and across the city are invited to celebrate the official unveiling of Mason Park Bridge with Houston Parks Board, Houston Parks and Recreation Department, Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Harris County Flood Control District, Houston-Galveston Area Council, Kinder Foundation and Council Member Robert Gallegos. Event partners include Houston Area Road Runners Association, The Houston Wellness Project, Houston Marathon Foundation, Houston Dynamo, Bayou Preservation Association, Houston Public Library, East End Management District, Nature and Eclectic Outdoors (NEO), Telemundo Houston and various community organizations.

The annual Houston Texans graduation ceremony for Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston (BGCGH) high school seniors went virtual this year to ensure the health and safety of all participants. The event takes place each May at the Houston Texans Teen Club in the Heights area, but the celebration on May 15 was all done via Zoom with 38 graduates and several Club directors joining in the video conference from their homes. With less than four years to go until its centennial celebration, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority is focused on accelerating and expanding its community service impact across the country. During its 57th biennial convention in Dallas, which was held from July 11 to 15, the African American sorority shattered previous attendance records. Members participated in three community service projects and attended more than 16 different workshops and activities while delegates focused on the future during the sorority’s business meetings. A record-breaking $88,000 was donated to six charities during the convention.
