Fifth Ward Documentary Film Festival to Premiere at the DeLuxe Theater Aug. 4-6
The DeLuxe Theater and Texas Southern University will host the premiere of The Fifth Ward Documentary Film Festival. The event will be held August 4 through August 6, 2017 at the DeLuxe Theater on Lyons Avenue and I-59. The festival will screen three documentaries – I Am Not Your Negro, Porgy & Me, Mickey Leland: Citizen of the World – and discussions with documentary principals following selected screenings.

Construction Scheduled for Ramada Drive Safe Sidewalk Project
Mayor Pro Tem Dave Martin is pleased to announce, in an effort to provide increased pedestrian mobility as well as safety, Houston Public Works will be making repairs to the sidewalk on the northern side of Ramada Drive from El Camino Real to Diana Lane. The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) envisions a world in which all communities have an equal voice in public policy through leadership cultivation, economic empowerment, and civic engagement. It’s no wonder why senior political science student Roman Zepeda applied for a CBCF internship. The Austin, Texas native has had his sights focused on public policy and leadership cultivation, every since he was in high school in Round Rock, Texas. He was accepted into the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s semester-long internship for the Fall 2018 semester.
