High Art 2023 at the O’Kane Gallery at UHD
The O'Kane Gallery at the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) is hosting its final spring exhibition, High Art 2023, May 13–20, with the opening reception on Saturday, May 13, 2 - 4 p.m. The annual High Art exhibition features student work from high schools throughout the Houston area. Nineteen high schools are participating in this year's exhibition with a variety of media including sculpture, painting, drawing, jewelry, video, photography, and ceramics. R.I.P. Robert Guillaume, 89, Emmy-Award Winning Actor and Star of “Benson”
Emmy Award-winning actor Robert Guillaume, best known as the title character in the TV sitcom “Benson,” died Tuesday. He was 89. His wife Donna Brown Guillaume told the Associated Press he died at their Los Angeles home of complications of prostate cancer. Guillaume often played acerbic, dry-witted, but ultimately lovable characters like the butler Benson Du Bois, which he created on the 1977 series “Soap,” before his character was spun off in 1979. Guillaume won Emmys both for “Soap” (as supporting actor) and “Benson” (as lead actor).

Houston Public Library is a 'Fine Free' System for Cardholders
With the support of Mayor Sylvester Turner and approval by Houston City Council, Houston Public Library (HPL) will no longer charge late fines on overdue books and other borrowed items. This change is effective January 11, 2023. Remembering the Life of Andrew Moran
In Derry, Louisiana, on a small tenant farm tended by his parents, Tony and Zarada, Andrew Moran was born in a modest house situated in a cotton field. Andrew spent his early years assisting his parents with the tasks associated with rural life: caring for livestock, hogs and chickens; and picking cotton, digging potatoes and pulling corn. He later drove a light truck on the Magnolia plantation where his father worked as a cowboy. When he wasn’t working on the farm, he attended primary school in Cloutierville, a few miles from his home.
