The American Heart Association today announced details of its new Kids Heart Challenge™, which includes jump rope, basketball, dance and warrior (obstacle course) components. The Kids Heart Challenge™ marks the Association’s 40th year working in schools and meets the changing needs of today’s youth and educators by preparing kids for success through physical and emotional well-being.

Houston-based Midway, the privately owned, fully integrated real estate investment and development firm, today announced a new public mural installation on the site of its 150-acre East River development in east downtown. Midway tapped local multidisciplinary artist David Maldonado to create the Houston-themed piece. At 60’x20’, the East River mural marks the artist’s largest work to-date.

TSU student awarded BeyGOOD Homecoming scholarship
Jordan Davis, a senior Healthcare Administration major at Texas Southern University is one of eight recipients of the 2018-2019 BeyGOOD Homecoming Scholars Award. He will receive a scholarship totaling $25,000. Davis participates in Habitat for Humanity and is a member of TSU Honors College Enrichment, Urban Gardening, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, and is a Young Life Christian Fellowship counselor. He plans to start a home health-care business after graduation.

Texas Southern University (TSU) scholars will help in the fight against cancer via a recently announced $5.1 million academic research grant from the Cancer Prevention & Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT). The five-year grant is a Core Facility Support award, which makes cutting-edge technology available for capital investment and technical expertise. It is TSU’s first-ever CPRIT award, and it is one of the largest publicly-funded grants the university has received in its 90-year history.
