Legislative Study Group Supports Public Ed
During the regular session, the Texas House passed a school finance plan - House Bill 21 in the regular session - which was also supported by the LSG. The legislation would have added desperately-needed funding to our public school system, boost per-student funding, increase the basic funding for almost all school districts, and more. HB 21(85(R)) was an important first step in school finance reform, however the Chairman of the Senate Education Committee refused to appoint conferees to negotiate with the House and so the bill died.
Rice's Kinder Institute to release findings from 36th Kinder Houston Area Survey
Stephen Klineberg, founding director of Rice University’s Kinder Institute for Urban Research and a sociology professor in Rice’s School of Social Sciences, will release findings from the 2017 Kinder Houston Area Survey at a downtown luncheon May 1. In celebration of World Children’s Day, the artwork of 600 local children – containing their wishes for the future – will be unveiled as part of a large, eight-by-six foot art installation during its exhibition debut at Children’s Museum Houston on Saturday, November 20. The “Wish in a Bottle” installation and celebration event, a partnership between Save the Children, Bvlgari North America, Children’s Museum Houston and Young Audiences of Houston, includes the participation of hundreds of students from the Greater Houston and Beaumont areas, who have artistically shared their hopes for the world and placed them in bottles as part of an Arte di Bvlgari program activity.
TxDOT Public Meeting: State Highway 3 Access Management Study
