The unpaid care provided by the 3.1 million caregivers in Texas is valued at $41 billion, according to new state data available in AARP’s latest report in the Valuing the Invaluable series. This is a $6 Billion increase in unpaid contributions since the last report was released in 2019. The report highlights the growing scope and complexity of family caregiving and highlights actions needed to address the many challenges of caring for parents, spouses, and other loved ones.

Governor Abbott Appoints Eight To Texas School Safety Center Board
Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Craig Bessent, Kerri Ranney, and Alan Trevino and reappointed Andrew Kim to the Texas School Safety Center Board for terms set to expire on February 1, 2020. Grant-funded breast cancer screening, wrap-around services available through Texas Southern University
Texas Southern University is now providing breast cancer screening, among other services, for African American and other ethnic minority women in Harris, Grimes, Matagorda, Walker, and Wharton counties, as part of a grant from the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT). The $1 million grant, which TSU secured in fall 2021, also provides patient navigation/barrier reduction services, and evidence-based culturally appropriate breast cancer awareness and education services for a population that has traditionally been underserved and at higher risk for breast cancer.
