Lifestyle guru, actress & model B. Smith has died. Smith’s husband made the unfortunate announcement on his Facebook page this morning. B. Smith’s legendary career started as a model in the 1960s. Smith made news as the first Black woman to be featured on the cover of the young woman’s magazine Mademoiselle.

Chris Hollins Sworn In as Harris County Clerk
Today, Chris Hollins was sworn in as Harris County Clerk, replacing Dr. Diane Trautman, who resigned effective May 31. Under Hollins, the County Clerk’s Office will administer the July 2020 primary runoffs and the November 2020 general election, in addition to continuing to deliver critical services to Harris County residents. He deputized his staff today and immediately began to assess the status of current operations and readiness for the upcoming elections.

Governor Abbott Issues Proclamation to Expand Hospital Capacity in Four Additional Texas Counties
Governor Greg Abbott today issued a proclamation suspending elective surgeries at hospitals in Cameron, Hidalgo, Nueces, and Webb counties to help ensure hospital bed availability for COVID-19 patients in these communities. This proclamation amends the Governor’s previous Executive Order to include these four counties in addition to Bexar, Dallas, Harris, and Travis counties.
Secretary DeVos Announces Emergency Assistance to Institutions of Higher Education
U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos announced today more than $63 million in new federal assistance for 47 institutions of higher education under the Emergency Assistance to Institutions of Higher Education program.
