Harriet Tubman National Historical Park Becomes Reality
Federal parks officials have formally established the Harriet Tubman National Historical Park in upstate New York. Members of the state’s congressional delegation joined U.S. Interior Secretary Sally Jewell in Washington, D.C., for the official signing ceremony last month that makes the park part of the National Park Service system. It encompasses the site of Tubman’s old home on the outskirts of Auburn, about 25 miles west of Syracuse, and a nearby church where she worshiped.

Yesterday, the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law launched the HBCU’s Vote campaign, which will provide financial, educational, and organizing support to student leaders at historically black colleges and universities in an effort to increase student voter participation in the November 2020 election. Students can receive up to $2,000 for planning a virtual or socially-distanced event that focuses on voter education and engagement, will have access to a Young Voter Resource Guide, and will be invited to participate in a series of webinars led by members of the national Election Protection coalition.

Governor Abbott, Texas National Guard Announce COVID-19 Mobile Testing Sites
Governor Greg Abbott today announced that the Texas National Guard will be mobilizing more than 1,200 personnel as part of COVID-19 mobile testing teams (MTT). The 45 member teams will be mobilized in various parts of the state providing greater access to medical testing. The areas for these MTTs will be identified by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) with the first two of the 25 teams deployed to Fredericksburg and Floresville, Texas. The remaining 23 teams will be deployed to additional locations based on assessments made by DSHS.
