Students Receive Over 200 Free Passports from CIEE
Thursday morning, Panthers gathered in front of the Willie A. Tempton Sr. Memorial Student Center for a celebration! Prairie View A&M University was selected to be a part of the CIEE Passport Caravan where over 200 students were able to receive free passports. “In today’s world it is very difficult to go far if you don’t have a passport,” said Interim President Ruth J. Simmons, “It’s not a symbol, it is a practical thing that one has to have.”
Rice announces tuition for 2020-21 school year
Rice University’s undergraduate tuition for the 2020-21 school year will be $50,310, an increase of $1,980 over the current year. The total cost, including $14,500 for room and board and $797 in mandatory fees, will increase 3.7% to $65,607.

Harris County Clerk Launches New Public Service Announcement “Vote Early and Stay Safe”
The Texas Supreme Court ruled that a lack of immunity to COVID may be considered as a factor in determining whether in-person voting creates a “likelihood of injury” to the voter’s health, but it cannot be the sole factor. It is the responsibility of voters to make their own health determinations, and the County Clerk’s Office does not have the authority or ability to question the voter’s judgment. If a voter applies for a mail ballot and checks one of the four categories of eligibility, the County Clerk’s Office will send you a ballot.
Harris Health Food Farmacy Patients Receive Curbside Service during Pandemic
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Harris Health System patients participating in its food prescription program are still receiving food thanks to curbside pick-up at Strawberry Health Center in Pasadena. The service is exclusively for patients already enrolled in Harris Health’s Food Farmacy.

Major League Baseball released its third update of the American League All-Star voting results today, which revealed that Astros reigning AL MVP Jose Altuve has maintained his lead among all Major League players in fan balloting (2,460,967), immediately ahead of Mookie Betts (2,337,514). Altuve has started the last three All-Star Games (2015-17) and has appeared in five Midsummer Classics overall (2012, 2014-17). He is looking to join Hall of Famer Rod Carew (six straight, 1970-75), Hall of Famer Roberto Alomar (four straight, 1991-94; five straight, 1996-2000) and Robinson Canó (five straight, 2010-14) as the only AL second basemen to win four consecutive fan elections. The Astros record for All-Star appearances is seven, held by Hall of Famer Craig Biggio.

Lake Charles to Host 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Boxing
USA Boxing and the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee have awarded the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Boxing to Lake Charles, Louisiana. Scheduled for Dec. 7-15, 2019, the trials will be held at the Lake Charles Civic Center, with the finals taking place at the Golden Nugget Lake Charles Hotel. In conjunction with the Trials, the 2019 USA Boxing National Championships will be held to determine USA Boxing’s junior and youth high performance teams for 2020.

Governor Abbott, TDEM Announce Expansion of COVID-19 Antibody Infusion Center In Seguin
Governor Greg Abbott today announced that the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM), in partnership with local officials, will expand operations at an active COVID-19 therapeutic infusion center in Seguin. The infusion center, which opened on a small scale in December 2020 and transitioned to a larger operation, will further grow operations starting tomorrow. The expansion is expected to double the number of daily infusions from 25-30 to approximately 50.
Governor Abbott, TDEM Launch COVID-19 Antibody Infusion Center In Victoria
Governor Greg Abbott today announced that the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM), in partnership with local officials, will launch a new COVID-19 therapeutic infusion center in Victoria. The infusion center will begin accepting patients tomorrow and has been provided with monoclonal antibodies to treat outpatient cases of COVID-19 who have a referral from a doctor. This treatment is available at no cost to the patient. Local partners include Victoria County, the Victoria Office of Emergency Management, Victoria ISD, and the Golden Crescent Regional Advisory Council.
