For many of these children, meals eaten at school are the only substantial meals they will receive during the day. School districts are critical players in implementing school food programs – yet some districts are doing better than others in providing breakfast, lunch, and after-school meals to students in need. With nearly 1.3 million food-insecure children in Texas, it is imperative that school districts do a much better job at ensuring our children are consistently getting nutritious meals.

General Motors’ (NYSE: GM) vision of an all-electric future is coming into clearer focus and gaining momentum with a $2.2 billion investment at its Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant to produce a variety of all-electric trucks and SUVs. GM’s first all-electric truck will be a pickup with production scheduled to begin in late 2021. This will be followed soon after by the Cruise Origin, a shared, electric, self-driving vehicle unveiled by Cruise in San Francisco last week. Detroit-Hamtramck will be GM’s first fully-dedicated electric vehicle assembly plant.

Governor Abbott, House And Senate Leadership, Grant Texas General Land Office Funding Request To Continue Housing Programs For Harvey Victims
Governor Greg Abbott, in partnership with Texas House and Senate leadership, recently approved a request by the Texas General Land Office (GLO) for $38.6 million in disaster-related aid to fund critical direct housing programs across the Gulf region in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. The funds will be transferred from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) to the General Land Office.

The “digital divide” is defined as the gulf between those who have ready access to computers and the internet, and those who do not. The Coalition for the Homeless announced results for the Point-In-Time Homeless Count & Survey, which took place January 23-25, 2018 on behalf of the local Continuum of Care (CoC), known as The Way Home. The annual Count provides a snapshot of the state of homelessness in the Houston area on a given night and is a requirement of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for The Way Home’s federal funding process. The Way Home CoC encompasses Houston, Pasadena, Harris County, Fort Bend County, and Montgomery County.
