Red Cross Helps those affected by Hurricane Idalia
Hurricane Idalia made landfall yesterday morning in Taylor County, Florida and moved northeast through Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. More than 100,000 people are without power from the storm. Currently, Idalia is bringing heavy rainfall and flash flooding to portions of the Carolinas. The Red Cross pre-positioned more than 400 disaster responders and truckloads of supplies to support the communities impacted. Two volunteers from The Texas Gulf Coast Region will be heading to Tallahassee today and tomorrow to help those in need.

Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19ththat the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. In 2018, Wreaths Across America (WAA) rolled out its Mobile Education Exhibit (MEE). This museum on wheels was designed to share the mission to Remember, Honor and Teach in local communities across the country. Since that time the program and reach has travelled so much further than WAA could have anticipated – in 2023 alone, the MEE has visited nine states, joined 83 community events, had 8,495 visitors on board, welcomed home 1,575 Vietnam veterans, and officially thanked 113 military families for their sacrifices. The MEE has seen almost 100k visitors in total since it first hit the road in 2018!
