Texas State Historical Marker Honors the Astrodome
The Harris County Historical Commission will dedicate a new Texas State Historical Marker for the Astrodome this Tuesday afternoon, May 29 at 3:00 PM. The event will be held on the west side of the Astrodome at NRG Park. Parking should be accessed through Gate 9 at Westridge and Kirby. The lot will open at 2:00 PM that afternoon.

Houston Chamber Choir’s 23rd Season opens with a concert that illustrates the joy of musicians, highlighting our singers’ favorite pieces. These are the compositions that remind us why we love to sing. This will be an evening of “the best of the best” by composers like Morten Lauridsen, Eric Whitacre and Bob Chilcott, along with John Tavener and Arvo Pärt. The Kinder HSPVA Chorale, under the direction of Shannon Carter, and the Parker Elementary School Advanced Chorus, under the direction of Marianna Parnas-Simpson, will be our featured guests as they present pieces that have kindled their youthful love for singing. The evening will end with a glorious performance featuring all three choirs singing together.

The Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities (GCPD) today announced the winners of the 2020 Barbara Jordan Media Awards for media content created in 2019. Established in 1982, the Barbara Jordan Media Awards recognize the respectful, accurate portrayal of people with disabilities by media professionals and students. In response to the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, GCPD and their partners at the Texas A&M University Department of Communication, Journalism Studies created a virtual awards program honoring the winners and highlighting their outstanding work.
