West Lake Houston Bridge Final Repairs Scheduled

Mayor Pro Tem Dave Martin would like to make Kingwood and Lake Houston area residents aware Houston Public Works will conduct a bridge repair project on the West Lake Houston Parkway Bridge beginning Monday, April 27. The project consists of replacing fourteen bearing pads. The cost of the project is $307,400 and will be funded through the Dedicated Drainage and Street Renewal Fund. The contractor for the project is ISI Contracting, Inc. The work is expected to be completed by Wednesday, May 20, weather permitting.

Federal judge dismisses "rape kit" lawsuit against last 6 mayors, other officials

A federal district court has dismissed a 2017 lawsuit against Mayor Sylvester Turner, five former Houston mayors, current and former police chiefs and the Houston Forensic Science Center and its CEO over a “rape kit” testing backlog that the city’s independent crime lab eliminated in 2014.

At my request, the Houston Police Department is increasing patrols beginning today near homes and businesses in Houston’s Asian commu- nity. We are taking these steps following the violence in Atlanta and acts of hate against Asian-Americans nationwide. HPD assures me that there are no credible threats in Houston, nor has our city experienced an increase in hate crimes reported against Asian-Americans. However, I understand that many of our neighbors are concerned and fearful for their safety.
