Civic Heart Community Services (Civic Heart) relocated its headquarters to One Emancipation Center at 3131 Emancipation Avenue in Houston’s Third Ward in June 2023. The 34-year-old organization, the largest black-founded non-profit organization in the Gulf coast region, formerly known as Change Happens!, recently announced its name change to Civic Heart Community Services.

The HBCU Executive Leadership Institute (HBCU ELI) at Clark Atlanta University, today announced its first honorary fellow, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms. Funded in large part by the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI), HBCU ELI aims to serve as an incubator for recruiting and developing the next generation of leaders for over 100 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The first-of-its-kind program boasts a roster that includes 58% women, making it the nation's most diverse cohort of future HBCU leaders. CZI's $1M donation is the largest gift to HBCU ELI to date.

Stewardship Saturdays, held on the first Saturday of each month, guide volunteers through several restoration tasks each week that keep the land healthy, including managing invasive species, clearing fences of vegetation, and planting native plants.
