The NAACP, in conjunction with REVOLT, will host a special virtual Juneteenth Black Family Reunion and Juneteenth virtual Town Hall on Friday, June 19th at 4 PM ET/ 1 PM PT and 6PM ET/3PM PT. The afternoon of events will commemorate the ending of slavery in the United States with music, moments, and discussions around the growing awareness of racial disparities, mobilization, and bold actions necessary to further the fight for social justice and equal opportunity throughout the nation.
TEA Takeover Statement: from CHILDREN AT RISK
Parents and teachers of Houston ISD have been on edge since Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner warned of an impending Texas Education Agency (TEA) takeover of the district. In January 2023, the Texas Supreme Court threw out the past injunction, allowing for TEA to go through with the takeover that has been on its do-to list since 2019 following years of low performance at Wheatley high school in the district.

Allstate Insurance Company and the Tom Joyner Foundation are kicking off its ninth year of supporting Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and their students through the annual Quotes for Education (QFE) program. Allstate will donate up to $100,000 in scholarship funds to the Tom Joyner Foundation to assist students attending HBCUs.
