Council Member Edward Pollard Calls for FBI and DOJ Investigation into the Ahmaud Arbery Killing in Letter
In a letter to U.S. Attorney General William Barr, Houston City Council Member for District J Edward Pollard expresses the importance of an investigation at the highest level of government into the shooting death of Ahmaud Arbery. Pollard sent a letter to the attorney general asking that the FBI and Department of Justice launch an official investigation into Arbery’s death, which took place in February 2020.

Medical experts have always known myelin, the protective coating of nerve cells, to be metabolically inert. A study led by The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center has found that myelin is surprisingly dynamic, a discovery that has implications for treatment of multiple sclerosis and a type of myelin damage caused by some chemotherapy drugs, often referred to as “chemobrain.” Chemobrain can occur in up to 70 percent of patients receiving chemotherapy, leaving them with temporary and even permanent thinking and memory impairment.

HCC Trustee Sentenced to Nearly Six Years in Prison
Former Houston Community College board member Chris Oliver will serve 70 months in federal prison, U.S. District Judge Vanessa D. Gilmore decided. Contractors allegedly paid Oliver a total of more than $250,000 influence contract awards between 2009 and 2016. Oliver plead guilty to accepting a $12,000 bribe from an HCC contractor, a bribe for which the Federal Bureau of Investigation provided funding.

City Council Member Edward Pollard Free Masks Giveaway
City Council Member Edward Pollard and his staff, along with more than a dozen volunteers, gave away 12,000 disposable face masks on Tuesday, April 28, to Houston residents is support of the Harris County order requiring residents to wear masks or face coverings when outside the home. Hundreds of cars began lining up at 6:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the PlazAmericas Mall, located at 7500 Bellaire Blvd. to receive the masks. Council Member Pollard also used this opportunity to encourage residents to complete their Census forms.
