New Initiative Invites Houstonians to Read Together
Mayor Sylvester Turner and Houston Public Library (HPL) announce a new citywide reading program: One Houston, One Book: Diverse Stories for a Diverse City. This new program highlights stories that celebrate our diverse backgrounds and experiences. Featured books are aimed at readers’ interest by age; they include Yangsook Choi’s “The Name Jar,” now considered a children’s literature classic; “Punching the Air,” a novel in verse for teens, by Ebi Zoboi and Dr. Yusef Salaam; and a memoir, “Once I Was You,” by award-winning journalist Maria Hinojosa.

Waller County Elections Office Denies Rejecting Voter Registrations from Prairie View A&M Students
After concerns spread Tuesday that some college students at Prairie View A&M had their voter registrations rejected, local election officials say that has not happened. Waller County Elections Administrator Christy Eason denies allegations. Eason said there has been confusion about students who live on campus not having the correct address for their precinct listed on their registrations, but she said the county had not mailed students notices about the issue.

The world's largest restaurant chain is getting a makeover.Subway restaurants, which boasts more than 40,000 locations globally, is rolling out a new look for its stores. The new design includes self-order kiosks that work with Apple Pay and Samsung Pay, and a more comfortable seating area with Wi-Fi and USB charging ports. The stores will feature a renewed emphasis on fresh produce, too, as whole tomatoes, onions and peppers will now be put on display, and will continue to be cut fresh at the store by the chain's "sandwich artists".
