In celebration of Black History Month, the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts Black Alumni Network (HSPVA BAN) will host The Wiz Emerald City Experience fundraiser which includes a pre-show reception and the Black History Month All-School Musical production of The Wiz. The event takes place on Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 4 pm to 6 pm at the Kinder HSPVA Studio Theater, 790 Austin St before the musical begins at 6:30 pm.
HCDE Head Start Recruits Students for Immediate Openings in 4 Communities
Four Harris County Department of Education Head Start centers (Baytown, Humble, La Porte and Tidwell) are recruiting students ages 3-5 for preschool for the 2018-19 school year. In addition, Early Head Start services to children 6 weeks to 3 years of age are available at the Baytown Head Start Center.

Community Outdoor Outreach Program (CO-OP) Diversifies Audiences Engaged with the Outdoors
Communities in Texas will have more opportunities to explore their natural surroundings thanks to grants awarded through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Community Outdoor Outreach Program (CO-OP). These 41 grant partnerships, totaling $2,048,678, will support community-based conservation and outdoor recreation activities throughout the state and build on $22 million already awarded by TPWD over the past 25 years.

Survey: Teen Girls’ Interest in STEM Careers Declines
New Survey by Junior Achievement Asks Teens about Career and Job Goals
A new survey by Junior Achievement (JA) conducted by the research group Engine shows that only 9 percent of girls between ages of 13 and 17 are interested in careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). This is down from 11 percent from a similar survey in 2018. Teen boys’ interest in STEM careers increased slightly to 27 percent, up from 24 percent in 2018. The survey of 1,004 teens was conducted from April 16 to 21, 2019.
